Designer Feature: Sonia Rykiel

Parisian designer Sonia Rykiel, started her career designing  maternity knitwear and has grown to become one of the most fashion forward brands in France. Known for being one of the first to sew seams on the outside of her garments and print on knitwear, Rykiel often pushes the boundaries of fashion and design.

Now 85, Rykiel's brand is the hands of artistic director Julie de Libran but much of Rykiels traits still dominate. Her eye for prints, bold colours and "fun fur" can be seen on Rykiels most recent catwalk collections.

As the creator of Rykielism, "a sociological and stylistic movement founded....in Saint-Germain-des_Pres, Paris Left Bank" Sonia encourages freedom to be oneself in a "chic and offbeat" way. A virtue of hers which shines through in her brand.

Mixing textures, colours, prints, cuts and styles Sonia Rykeil shows how to put your own fun and interesting twist on classic Parisian chic. Once voted one of the ten most elegant woman in the world she leads the way on stylish trend setting.

Its hard not to be inspired by this lady's passion, courage and style. I'm sure her brand and her designs will stand the test of time, still setting trends in years to come.
